Our thoughts on Volvo used cars

With XC90 models still fetching serious money whatever the vintage, better value might well be found in the XC70 estate. Look for a model from 2004 on, when the XC70 received a far-reaching facelift. The key difference most will notice is a bigger 'large mesh' grille similar to the XC90 but the interior was spruced up too. Then, in the Spring of 2005 the D5 diesel engine was given a power boost from 163bhp to 185bhp as well as various modifications to make it Euro IV compliant. The SE Sport trim level arrived in mid 2006 at the same time that all models got door mirrors with integrated indicators. These cars are built tough, so don't worry unduly about higher mileages.

Don't neglect the S60 saloon either. It might not be the most glamorous car Volvo produced but it certainly scores amongst the best when it comes to used value. If you're on a tighter budget, look to one of the 2000 model year cars and take advantage of the capped VED tax.
