Our thoughts on Nissan used cars

No apologies for putting the rather wonderful 350Z coupe in pole position. Although the cheapest used stock will probably be Japanese import Fairlady versions, there's tons of UK cars to select from and that 3.5-litre V6 engine is tough. They have an appetite for clutches though, and it's not uncommon for a 100,000 mile example to be on its fourth. Aside from that, there's a lot to like about this affordable and enjoyable sportster.

The Nissan Note is a model that doesn't get a whole lot of airplay but which quietly does the supermini-MPV thing extremely well. At its best with an automatic gearbox, the Note works excellently as a city car with added versatility. There's quite a lot of used stock about and try to land an ex-Motability car for the keenest prices. Another model that's well worth keeping your eyes peeled for is the Patrol. A big diesel 4x4 of the old school, the Patrol makes all kinds of sense if you value sheer indestructibility and go-anywhere capability. You'll need to make sure you land one with the uprated 3.0-litre diesel, available from 2004. If you hanker after more equipment, look to the post 2006 cars.
