Our thoughts on Alfa Romeo used cars
Now that the Giulietta is making inroads as a new purchase, late model 147s are looking a smart piece of business. The advantage of buying a car at the end of its product run is that all the teething problems have been thoroughly ironed out and the 147 now represents a cheap car when compared with the likes of the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. The GTA model is a genuinely exciting steer, packing 247bhp and getting to 60mph in just six seconds, but it's the JTDm diesel models that will be more relevant to most buyers, offering plenty of torque, decent economy and respectable, if not class-leading, emissions.
One recurring theme with a used Alfa Romeo is the fact that it always appears a more expensive car than it really is. No model better exemplifies this than the last of the GTV line. With junior exotic styling, a magnificent V6 powerplant and an interior with all the right Latin performance design cues can be yours for less than £6,000. As long as you can keep that price tag under your hat, your neighbours will think there's a £20,000 car on your drive. If you're a little fatigued of pious lectures on emissions and economy, this is the perfect antidote.
