Our thoughts on Mg used cars

The MG model most will think of is the MGF and its successor, the MG TF. Of the two, the TF is the far better buy, the potentially costly Hydragas suspension being ditched for simple steel springs that worked better. The last of the 2005 model year cars enjoyed the best fit and finish and of these, the TF135 and TF160 both merit investigation. Drive one and you'll wonder how MG ever got into such difficulties.

As pretty as the TF is, if you really want value from MG, the ZR, ZS and ZT models are the places to look. Based on Rovers 25,45 and 75 respectively, this range of cars wasn't really rocket science, but it did concentrate on driving fun, which is something that's often lacking in today's safety and emissions fixated new car market. It's hard to pick a pup from this lot, with particular highlights being the ZS180 and the ZT diesels. There's also the ZT-T estate which still looks fabulous. The ZT160 and ZT190 models are priced extremely competitively but bear in mind that both these cars have a fair thirst on them, so budget accordingly. Those looking for a left-field collector's item may also want to consider the carbon-bodied MG SV XPower supercar. Only nine were ever built and examples occasionally appear for sale priced around £35-40,000. They won't get any cheaper.
