I feel as if I'm betraying some sort of industry confidence here, but if there was one car manufacturer that is just bursting with used car bargains it's Mitsubishi. I'm not sure if it's the patchy promotion, the hit and miss pricing policy or the rather strange product range, but Mitsubishi's portfolio has never seemed to form a cohesive strategy. Our thoughts on Mitsubishi used cars

The Mitsubishi i is a wonderful city car that makes a lot more sense than many of its bigger selling rivals. It's narrow enough to slot into gaps, there's no overhang on the front so parking is ludicrously easy, access to the back is good due to five doors and the tiny 660cc engine generates minuscule fuel bills. Best of all it's a used steal, with prices starting at less than five grand. Not a lot goes wrong with the i and mileages are usually very modest indeed, so even a 2007 example can feel nearly new. Just check for the usual trolley dints.

Although it's now a rather unfashionable thing, very little does fast quite like a Mitsubishi Evo, of which the Evo VII is the destination for the smart money. Be a track day destroyer for £6,500. For a car with the cross-country pace to embarrass supercars, that's an amazing deal. You'll need to budget for its thirst and its frequent servicing overhead but in an era where we're expected to be clean and green, there's something gloriously incorrect about an Evo. The final pick in Mitsubishi's range is the rather overlooked Shogun Pinin. If you need all-weather capability, strong reliability and don't have a swollen budget, it's hard to fault this little SUV. Need newer and bigger? The late-shape Outlander also merits a solid recommendation.
