Situated in East Anglia, Cambridgeshire is an agricultural county flat in the North and hilly in the South. It is surrounded by neighbouring counties Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Lincolnshire to the North. In the South the river Cam runs through the County and meets the Ouse in the north in Ely. In the seventies Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely and Huntingdon and Peterborough merged together to form the county as it is today. Silicon Fen makes up a majority of the region. The Northern part of the county is known for its Fenlan landscape.
Cambridge is the county town and is well known for its historic and one of the country’s best and oldest Universities. The University dates back to the 13th Century and a number of well-known alumni have attended there including Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. Medieval architecture can be seen in the King’s College Chapel.
Sir Oliver Cromwell was born in the market town of Huntingdon where to this day you can visit the Cromwell museum which used to be Cromwell’s place of education when it was formerly a school.
