A historic view on Skoda

The more affordable way to by a used Skoda is the Fabia supermini. The Mk1 cars emerged in 1999 but it's far better for stretch to the Mk2 of 2007. With more individual styling and obvious links to the MK5 Volkswagen Polo, it's a roomy and sweet handling small car. Pre-owned Skoda Octavias are also highly prized. This VW Golf-based hatch represents strong value for money as a used car as it did new. The sporty vRS versions use the engines from the equivalent Golf GTI models and are something of a performance bargain. Estates were also offered and the MK2 cars launched in 2004 came in 4x4 form. Also well worth a look is the Skoda Superb executive saloon. Its foundations are that of the Volkswagen Passat but an extended wheelbase produces extremely generous rear legroom. Used second hand examples are conspicuously cheap and the second generation Superb features a novel rear tailgate marring the benefits of saloon and hatchback. The Roomster supermini MPV is another popular Skoda second hand car with its simple, functional design and roomy cabin.
