Celebrating it's 20th birthday in 2016, the Renault Scenic is generally thought to have been the first ever compact MPV, and the latest version is even more spacious, well equipped and cheap to run than its predecessors. True, it has rivals, most notably the Citroen C4 Picasso, but the Scenic matches - or betters - the Picasso on several fronts, not least in terms of style. But the Scenic is impressive in more ways than just style. It has massive 20" wheels, for example, and is crammed with useful storage spaces. Plus, the interior is well-built, and features lots of the latest technical wizardry. It's true that legroom in the back isn't all it could be, but this will affect only the long-legged adults among us. Engines? There are petrol and diesel versions to choose from, ranging from a 1.2L turbo petrol to a 1.6L diesel, though the diesels are thought by many to be better suited to the Scenic. As to the interior, the Scenic lets in lots of light and is generally well-built, and if you opt for the top trim level, you'll get an 8.7" touchscreen infotainment system, too. Other models have a 7" system. In summary, the Scenic competes well with the likes of the Ford C-Max and Citroen C4 Picasso, which are a similar price, and the 1.6L diesels are very competitive on tax and emissions.
