If you want to own a Merc, and you can't afford the kind of prices normally associated with the brand, this might be the place to start. That's because the CLC has lots to offer, including a stylish design, good ride quality, an impressively well-finished interior and - importantly - the kind of relatively affordable price tag that makes it good value for money. What's more, you get a decent set of options when it comes to engines. True, they're all four-cylinder, but you can choose from sizes ranging from a supercharged 1.8L to a 3.5L unit able to deliver 0-62mph in a pretty punchy 6.3 seconds. Plus, they do pretty well on the economy front, with the diesels retuning an average of around 49mpg, and CO2 emissions of 150-160g/km, keeping the tax bill reasonably low. And the CLC has some surprises in store, too. One of these is cabin space. It may be compact to look at, but you'll be (pleasantly) amazed at the amount of legroom, while the boot is both roomy and well-designed. Equipment-wise, the standard SE comes with plenty of kit, including parking sensors, alloy wheels and automatic climate control, while Sport models are even better kitted out. As with all cars, of course, the CLC has its flaws - some reviewers, for example, complain that visibility isn't up to snuff, and that there's a tad too much engine noise for comfort.
