And the latest version is, in the view of many, the best so far, sporting a distinctive new facelift and a hybrid steel and aluminium construction. And there's no doubt that it's got a lot to offer. Competing with the likes of the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes E-Class, it's fast, stylish and economical, as well as well-built and practical. So, what's it's strongest points? Well, we don't have the space to go into all of them, but it would be remiss not to point out the strong engine line-up , which starts with the highly economical 2.0 TDI diesel, aimed at company car drivers, and ends up with the 4.0L petrol unit (in the RS6 Avant), which delivers a rip-snorting performance of 0-62 in 4.4 seconds! We feel dizzy just thinking about it! But the A6 has much more to commend it. All models score pretty well on cabin and boot space, and the build quality is simply first-class. You have three trims to choose from, but whichever you go for, you'll get at least the standard fittings of bi-xenon headlights, 17" alloys, cruise control and front and rear parking sensors. Upgrade to the S-Line and you get a whole lot more options.
