Introduced in 2007, Nissan's Qashqai was among the first to combine 4x4 styling with hatchback-type running costs - and it is a formula that made it into a best-seller. Today, the Qashqai is better than ever, with more style, equipment and space - not to mention better fuel economy - than any of its predecessors. In fact, it's so good that it claimed the Best Mainstream SUV title in the 2016 Telegraph Cars Awards, beating the Seat Ateca and Renault Kadjar to the title. But the Qashqai is more than just style - it's a decent performer, too. All the available engines, which include a 1.6L petrol, and 2 diesels (1.5L and 1.6L) offer a smooth and reasonably pacey drive, though none could be classed as breathtaking when it comes to oomph. For many, though, their real strength is in their excellent economy which can climb as high as 74.3mpg (1.5dCi, combined cycle). The diesels also offer excellent CO2 levels, making them a cost-effective company car. When you add in the fact that the Qashqai comes with very decent levels of kit, including climate control and Bluetooth, it's easy to see why so many people want one!
