The Civic was once a practical, dependable and slightly boring family car but in 2005, Honda let its hair down with an all-new model that majored in futuristic styling. Both this latest car and the generation before it have something to be said for them and each was offered in high performance Type-R guise for true petrolheads.
Other Honda used cars to look out for are the Accord, Honda's handsome medium range saloon or estate, the CR-V 4x4 and the FR-V six-seater MPV. Used second hand versions of the charismatic S2000 roadster bring big fun for the money and the HR-V was a small but stylish 4x4 designed primarily for urban use. Honda was one of the last mainstream marques to embrace diesel engines, so earlier models are predominately petrol.

ENJOY A CIVIC RECEPTION This Civic range finally put to rest the old memories of Civics being tiny starter cars of little sophistication. The seventh generation Civic was superbly engineered, innovative in design and rightly popular with British buyers. Honda did almost everything right. There was a family friendly five-door, a slightly more rakish three-door and a flagship Type-R sports model that quickly deposed the Renaultsport Clio 172 as the hot hatch of choice. The only slight fly in the ointment was the woeful US-built Coupe, one of Hondas rare own goals.
As a used proposition, its difficult to get things wrong. All models have peerless reliability and Honda dealers have an enviable reputation.
