Hyundai Getz 1.4 CDX AIR CON (2007)
The Best Small Family Car
This is the top of the range model in the Getz series and has features not often seen in such an economical car. It is made in Korea where the car is sold under the name Hyundai Click.
The 1.4 petrol engine is capable of producing massive torque when required to get you out of a tight spot and it is quite sporty At the same time, it is small enough to provide comfortable and economical cruising.
The five-speed gear box ensures good fuel efficiency and gear change is smooth and easy, unlike some small cars where a small gear box can be stiff. Cruising on motorways, the car easily returns over 50 miles to the gallon. If you keep the speed down to about 50mph, then 55-57 m.p.g. is possible. Around town, 45 m.p.g is typical. It is easy to monitor your driving because of the electronic trip meter which also showns miles to the next fuel stop, the petrol consumption and
temperature.
This model is fully electric: electric windows front and back. electric sun roof both tilt and slide and electric wing mirrors. The position of the steering wheel can be adjusted as well as the base and back of the drivers seat.
The car has a split rear seat and deceptive luggage space
Favourite features
One of the best features is the almost effortless way in which the rear seats fold down to form a flat plateau, ideal for carrying boxes home from the supermarket. If required, this flat table can then be fold up again behind the front seats to give even more space.
The front seats recline so far that they can be used like a bed. When the front passenger seat is horizontal, very long items can be carried. I have even carried wardrobes and a double bed (of course dismantled) including a double mattress!
There are some very useful accessories such as the sun glasses case and cup holder and an excellent stereo with removable security chip. The drivers seat is quite luxurious with adjustable arches for the back and bottom and even includes a fold away arm-rest.
The wing mirrors fold in for safe parking but unlike the larger Hyundais this has to be done manually.
Suggested improvements
There is very little that can be improved on with this car for its price bracket.
There were a few niggles. For example, the thermometer is in Farenheit, not Celsius
and the accelerator pedal is quite soft. It may well suit women and smaller Koreans but on a long journey, a big mans foot may get tired. An improvement would be an adjustable tensioner on the pedal spring.
The car is very well equipped and comfortable though in common with other compact cars, the suspension is quite light giving a bumpy ride over speed bumps etc. On a good flat road, the driving is smooth and comfortable however.
